Former Minister and Sanathnagar MLA T. Srinivas Yadav warned that the agitation for the formation of a separate Secunderabad municipal corporation would be intensified and taken to its logical conclusion, even to the extent of an indefinite hunger strike if the need arises. Addressing a meeting organised by the Lashkar District Sadhana Samithi on Sunday, he accused the Congress government of attempting to undermine the historic identity of Secunderabad. He announced that a peaceful rally with around 10,000 participants would be held on January 17 from Secunderabad Railway Station to the Gandhi statue on MG Road to mount pressure on the government. Mr.Srinivas Yadav said Secunderabad was home to several iconic institutions, including Osmania University, Rashtrapati Nilayam, South Central Railway headquarters, Gandhi Hospital, Monda Market, the Nizam-era Clock Tower and the Army Camp, and described them as living testimonies to the city’s rich heritage. He alleged that the government was acting unilaterally in matters of delimitation, ignoring the views of people and public representatives. He further criticised the manner in which GHMC divisions were reorganised, claiming even the Mayor and Deputy Mayor were unaware of the details. The MLA said the movement would be carried out on a non-party basis until the government announced the formation of the Secunderabad municipal corporation. Leaders from various political parties, trade and labour unions, journalists’ bodies, caste organisations and senior citizens’ associations expressed solidarity.
