Photo: Vinod Tihara Instagram The Supreme Court on Monday (January 12, 2026) agreed to look into a plea questioning the continuation of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) secretary in office, even as the national capital gets ready to host six key T20 World Cup cricket matches to be held in by India by the end of January. A Bench headed by the Chief Justice of India Surya Kant will consider an application filed by former DDCA secretary Vinod Tihara, alleging that the incumbent Ashok Sharma has completed his nine-year tenure. “The T20 World Cup is hosted by India. It is starting at the end of this month. There are six matches in Delhi. The present secretary of the association has completed his nine-year tenure The secretary operates as the effective CEO,” senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan, for Mr. Tihara, submitted. The senior advocate said the incumbent’s tenure had ended in September. DDCA counsel, senior advocate Ranjit Kumar, strongly objected to the submissions made by Mr. Sankaranarayanan on behalf of Mr. Tihara. The amicus curiae, senior advocate Sridhar Pottaraju, said this was part of the “political acrimony” within the DDCA management. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), said the accusations were merely an effort to “wash dirty linen in public”. The DDCA and BCCI were found to be on the same page as the latter formally accepted the submissions made by the association in an affidavit filed in response to the allegations raised by Mr. Sankaranarayanan’s client. Mr. Sankaranarayanan said the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association had held elections to the post of its assistant secretary after the incumbent had “admittedly finished” his nine-year tenure in office. Mr. Kumar said there was no such admitted position in this case.
