Disciples of Natyanjali Nrutya Kala Kendra made an innovative presentation of dance drama Aadi Kavya in Hubballi recently leaving the audience watching the epic of India spellbound.

Danseuse Sahana Bhat and her disciples ensured that important episodes of the great epic were adapted to dance to narrate the story of Lord Rama beginning with his birth and woven around his fight against the asuras, Sita Kalyana, Rama’s Vanavasa, abduction of Sita, Rama’s conquest of Lanka with the defeat of Ravana and concluding with Sita’s agnipariksha.

The quick succession with which the artists donned different roles, neat presentation, beautiful background narration interspersed with music won the hearts of the audience.

The dance drama marked Rasa Saptami, the 30th anniversary of the Nrutya Kendra, during which the annual awards were also presented.

On the occasion, folk artist Prakash Kumaraswamy Malligawad was honoured with the Rai Datar Award by president of the kendra Prakash Bhat, danseuse Sahana Bhat and other dignitaries.

Doctor couple Rekha Kini and Rajesh Kini were honoured with Puttiger Narayan Bhat Award on the occasion.

Responding to the honour, Prakash Malligawad emphasised the need for parents to motivate their children to develop interest in fine arts which will help them in reducing screentime.

Chartered Accountant Srikanth Bhat highlighted the significance of classical dance forms.
