Burning cigarette butts can ignite a fire. | Photo Credit: Getty Images During a recent journey through the hills, I noticed a small, closed box for tobacco disposal. It looked simple and ordinary. Many people may pass it without noticing. But it made me think about the past and the present. There was a time when smoking was part of social life. It was seen not just as a personal habit. In homes, offices, and at weddings, offering a cigarette was a common practice. It was treated as a sign of courtesy. Cigarettes were served along with tea and snacks. At that time, most smokers were men. It was a normal and accepted behaviour. Smoking helped people start conversations. It also made interactions easy and informal. In offices, it sometimes reduced the gap between seniors and juniors.
