On the second day of his Coimbatore visit, BJP National Working president Nitin Nabin reinforced his call to partymen to root out the ‘corrupt’ DMK government from power.

Addressing booth-level functionaries at Singanallur, Mr. Nabin said vigorous grassroots level campaign by the cadre was a sure shot approach for strengthening the National Democratic Alliance in Tamil Nadu.

Citing his own example, Mr. Nabin said ascension of a grassroots cadre to the post of National Working president was possible only in the BJP. He said the DMK was indulging in rampant corruption. Dominance by the Chief Minister’s family has taken a toll on governance.

With only 90 days left for the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls, BJP cadre must propagate the achievements of Modi government, while flagging the shortcomings of the DMK government. The cadre must be prepared to hold protests against DMK’s ‘misrule’, he said.

Earlier in the day, Mr Nabin took part in the Pongal celebration titled ‘Namma Ooru Modi Pongal’ that was organised by the BJP urban unit at Vadavalli.

Pongal was prepared amid Valli Kummi, Silambam, Bharatham, and other traditional art performances.

The event was meant to showcase the traditional celebration of Pongal to the BJP leaders from North Indian States, BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran said.

After DMK assumed power, no importance had been given for celebration of Hindu festivals. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has not extended Pongal greetings, Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan said.

Election activities will gather pace after the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Tamil Nadu, she said.
