The Ramamurthy Nagar police have arrested a 31-year-old woman for allegedly assaulting a woman Home Guard on traffic duty, following a trivial argument on Friday afternoon.

According to the police, the incident occurred near the K.R. Puram Railway Station on January 9 around 3 p.m. The victim, Lakshmi Narasamma, 36, a home guard attached to the Ramamurthy Nagar Traffic Police Station, was deployed to regulate traffic at the busy junction.

The police said the Home Guard was instructing pedestrians and motorists to move to the side of the road to ease congestion when a woman standing in the middle of the road objected. Despite repeated requests, the woman refused to cooperate and allegedly began arguing with the Home Guard.

The situation escalated when the accused reportedly abused the Home Guard using filthy language and suddenly attacked her. The woman allegedly pulled the Home Guard’s hair, slapped her, and struck her. The Home Guard suffered bleeding injuries to her nose and face. During the scuffle, the accused also allegedly snatched the baton from the Home Guard and continued the assault.

Passers-by intervened and rescued the Home Guard, following which the accused fled the spot. The injured Home Guard was later shifted to a government hospital.

Based on the complaint, the police identified the accused as Mohana, a resident of Narayanapura near Chunchaghatta. She was arrested on charge of assault, obstruction of a public servant from discharging duty, and use of abusive language under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
