Perarivalan, who served life term in former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination case, was enrolled as a lawyer recently because the law permits it. There was no provision to disqualify him forever, he added. When asked about the uproar over the enrolment of Mr. Perarivalan in the rolls of the BCTNP on Monday (April 27, 2026), Mr. Balu said that Section 24A of the Advocates Act of 1961 states that no person convicted of an offence involving moral turpitude should be enrolled with the bar councils.
