It is essential to build a resistance rooted in scientific temper and democratic values in an era where history is being reinterpreted to establish new forms of hegemony, former Minister M.A. Baby has said here on Tuesday. He was speaking at the inauguration of a two-day international seminar on ‘Cultural Logic/Practices of Nationalism: Hegemony and Democratic Struggles’, jointly organized by Sreenarayana Guru Open University (SGOU) and the Kerala History Congress in memory of the renowned historian, the late Prof. K.N. Panikkar. During his inaugural address, Mr. Baby remembered Prof. Panikkar not just as a scholar, but as a visionary who viewed historiography as a continuous struggle rather than a mere collection of facts. He noted that Prof. Panikkar taught that culture is never static; instead, it is a dynamic force shaped by the lived experiences of the people.
