Authorities on Monday (April 27, 2026) sealed a seminary-cum-school with around 800 students in south Kashmir’s Shopian district under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti and Kashmir chief cleric expressed dismay over the move. Invoking Section 8(4) of the UAPA, the District Magistrate, Shopian, barred any entry into the notified place. “No person who is not a resident of Darul Uloom Jamia Siraj-ul-Uloom, Imam Sahib, Shopian, shall enter or remain on the said premises without prior permission,” the order said.
