Water was released from the Kodiveri dam, near Gobichettipalayam, into the Thadapalli and Arakkankottai irrigation channels for 120 days to support the first paddy crop, on Monday (April 27, 2026). Water discharged from the Bhavanisagar dam is impounded at the Kodiveri barrage and released through these channels for irrigation. Typically, water is supplied for about 10 months annually through the channels, benefiting nearly 25,504 acres of farmland. Farmers had recently urged the authorities to release water for the first crop season, following which officials opened the sluices on Monday.
