Sathyamoorthy The forest department is fighting multiple fires that have destroyed hundreds of acres of forest in the Nilgiris forest division and the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR). On Sunday (April 26, 2026), helicopters from the Sulur Air Force base in Coimbatore were deployed for the second consecutive day to help fight the fires. According to a press release, forest fire was reported in Wenlock Downs Reserve Forest of Parson’s Valley Range of Nilgiris Forest Division on April 15. The local forest team was deployed to fight the fire. Multiple forest fire fighting crew involving more than 400 forest personnel from all over the State were roped in to control the fire.
