When a two-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in north Delhi’s Bawana in June 2025, the case could easily have become another number in the long queue of pending POCSO trials. Instead, it secured a conviction in nine months, the result of a determined Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Outer North district of Delhi. The district is the only one in the Capital to have constituted dedicated SITs for serious POCSO cases, at least 12 so far. Each team brings together an Assistant Commissioner of Police, a Station House Officer, Sub-Inspectors, head constables and legal consultants, all working under the direct supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police. “The objective is to ensure that justice is not delayed,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North) Hareshwar Swami.
