Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was quick to defend the university and its students and called it a “democracy in motion.” During a poll campaign on Friday (April 25, 2026), in the Jadavpur Assembly constituency, Mr. Modi said that once JU was respected globally and was established on a foundation of “nationalism”.
