Young and first time voters were among the earliest and largest segment of the electorate who cast their votes in the Assembly elections in Coimbatore district on Thursday. A first-year B.Sc physcis student, Surya, who voted in Coimbatore South, told The Hindu that he wants to pursue research. “Only one party made a promise on research and I have voted for that party,” he said. 18-year-old Nithika and her sister, 25-year-old Deepika who voted at Kalveerampalayam (Coimbatore North) said they have voted for change. Supporters of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam came in white and beige attire. At Singapathi tribal settlement in the Siruvani foothills, 23-year-old Ajay said people in the settlement want the elected representative to support all of them with proper houses, a good road, and drinking water supply.
