People waited in a long queue in almost all polling booths, with Salem registering 90.61% and Namakkal registering 89.93% turnout for the Assembly elections on Thursday (April 23, 2026).

In Salem district, people, especially first-time voters, enthusiastically came early to the polling booths. In a polling booth at Nethimedu, a robot welcomed voters with chocolates and flowers. Amid a 102-degree Fahrenheit registered in the Salem district, people exercised their democratic rights.
