Dinesh Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who represents Karnataka in Rajya Sabha, has offered ₹5 crore from her MPLADS for expanding the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Shivamogga Institute of Medical Sciences in Shivamogga, B.Y. Raghavendra, Shivamogga MP informed the media on Wednesday. In a press conference in Shivamogga, Mr. Raghavendra said he had requested the Union Minister for sanction of grants under the MP Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS), considering the needs of the SIMS, which has grown into a major tertiary care centre for the people in Shivamogga and neighbouring districts. The Union Minister accepted his request and wrote a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Bengaluru Urban District recommending the funds for NICU in Shivamogga.
