Polling began on the usual note at polling booths 161 and 162 in Athikulam in Madurai North Assembly Constituency. These booths mostly cater to Tamil Nadu Government Officials Quarters in DRO Colony and Police Quarters in Reserve Line. Though voters had arrived much before 7 a.m., only five to seven electors were in queues of both the polling stations when the polling started. Gun-totting CAPF and police personnel were present at the booths.
