It is a mixed picture about healthcare in Telangana that emerges from the “National Sample Survey’s 80th Round Report on Household Social Consumption: Health” released recently. The average medical expenditure per hospitalisation case (excluding childbirth) (as in-patient) in Telangana is among the highest in the country at ₹52,743, topped only by Chandigarh where it is ₹80,478. The national average is comparatively lower at ₹37,858. The high expense of hospitalisation cost is linked to treatment at private hospitals (in urban and rural) which averages ₹72,561. For Tamil Nadu, the treatment at private hospitals in urban areas is higher at ₹80,923. However, the cost drops to ₹5,856 at Telangana government hospitals in urban areas, while it drops to ₹1,364 in Tamil Nadu.
