Apple Inc. announced Tim Cook’s September departure on Monday (April 20, 2026), with long-time hardware chief John Ternus set to take the reins after Cook.

Tim Cook is the CEO who has held the position the longest among the company’s six former CEOs. Steve Jobs, the company’s founder, was CEO for around 14 years, while John Sculley held the role for about 10 years. Tim Cook, on the other hand, has been CEO for roughly 15 years. He took over in 2011 after Steve Jobs stepped down due to health issues.
