A Samajwadi Party (SP) delegation was allegedly attacked on Wednesday (April 22, 2026) at Kataria village in Ghazipur district after it attempted to meet the family of a 16-year-old girl hailing from the Vishwakarma community who was murdered. Former Minister and SP leader Ram Asare Vishwakarma, who is part of the delegation, was also injured in the stone pelting by some locals who were questioning outside interference and politicisation of the death. The SP alleged that goons linked to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were responsible for the attack. The police arrested 10 people in connection with the incident. On the contrary, some villagers alleged that workers accompanying the SP delegation attacked them, leading to the retaliation.
