The district leadership of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has denied media reports that it was unhappy with Fathima Thahiliya, the United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate from Perambra, over her role in the recent controversy related to the “opening” of a room at the JDT Islam Education Complex at Vellimadukunnu, where electronic voting machines (EVMs) used in the Assembly polls are kept.

In a release on Wednesday (April 22, 2026), IUML district president M.A. Razak and district general secretary T.T. Ismail said that media reports claiming that Ms. Thahiliya had not informed the party leadership before reaching the site were factually incorrect. K. Shahzad, Ms. Thahiliya’s husband and expenditure agent, had already reached the site, as the returning officer had informed her about the opening of the room only an hour in advance. They also said that only two candidates had been informed, which was a violation of the rules.
