MOORTHY As temperatures soar in Tiruchi, makeshift fruit and juice stalls are seeing brisk business as residents flock to beat the summer heat. With just a week left of April, intense heat has gripped the city. On Wednesday, a maximum of 39 degrees Celsius was recorded in the city. Makeshift stalls selling watermelon slices, fresh fruit juices, tender coconut, sugarcane juice, palmyra fruit, pathaneer, buttermilk, pearl millet porridge (kamman koozh), have mushroomed along major roads and busy junctions in the city. These outlets, often set up under temporary shades or on pushcarts, are drawing large crowds of commuters, students, and daily wager seeking quick refreshment. This has become a common sight in major areas such as Bharathidasan Salai, West Boulevard Road, Puthur High Road, Simco Road in K.K. Nagar, Salai Road, and Madurai Main Road.
