The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested an absconding key accused involved in a major ganja trafficking case reported in Nagapattinam district in 2020. The accused S. Ramadhas alias Karuthapandi who had been absconding for several years was intercepted at the Tiruchi international airport on April 19 by the NCB. The case pertains to the seizure of approximately 661.5 kilograms of ganja in February 2020 from a truck that was intercepted in Nagapattinam district. The case was registered by the NCB Madurai Sub Zone in 2020. Investigation revealed that Ramadhas was the main receiver of the contraband and was allegedly involved in plans to traffic ganja onward to Sri Lanka. While other accused were arrested and subsequently convicted by a Court, Ramadhas had evaded arrest and remained absconding since the date of seizure. Pursuant to legal and investigative efforts the accused was traced to Singapore. With international cooperation, movement of the accused was continuously monitored, and he was detained when he landed at the Tiruchi airport.
