The blazing heat of the 2026 summer is taking its toll on Kerala’s agriculture sector. Farmers have so far reported crop loss amounting to ₹10.54 crore in a total of 344 hectares, mostly under paddy and banana cultivation, according to an Agriculture department data for the period up to April 21. As many as 2,032 farmers across 14 districts have been affected by the crop loss arising from the intense summer temperatures and absence of seasonal rainfall. Cost-wise, Thiruvananthapuram, Malappuram and Alappuzha have reported the highest losses among the districts.
