Tension prevailed on Tuesday (April 21) as hundreds of sugarcane farmers attempted to storm the Deputy Commissioner’s office, alleging non-payment of the additional ₹100 per tonne announced by the State government.

The police intervened and foiled the attempt, leading to brief scuffles and jostling at the entrance. The agitating farmers later staged a sit-in protest in the portico and vowed to continue their agitation until their dues are cleared. Protesters said they would not relent until the Deputy Commissioner convenes a meeting and arrives at a solution.
