Traffic police across Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri booked a total of 929 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol during special enforcement drives conducted between Friday and Saturday, April 17 and April 18. Police said driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence and warned that if a drunk driver causes a fatal accident, they would be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which carries a punishment of up to 10 years’ imprisonment along with a fine. In Malkajgiri 12 offenders were sentenced to jail along with fine, 16 awarded fine and community service, and 221 fined.
