More than 100 hectares of forest is estimated to have been destroyed after a massive wild fire broke out in the Pykara Forest Range in Udhagamandalam in The Nilgiris about five days ago.

The fire has not been able to be brought under control due to the presence of a large depository of biomass comprising exotic undergrowth, officials said.
