A day after coming to the rescue of 11-month-old Punarvika, who is suffering with life-threatening genetic disorder called Spinal Muscular Atrophy, IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh on April 19 (Sunday) announced  Project Punarvika, an initiative that would work on multiple fronts to help children fighting such crippling diseases.

A gene therapy injection costing a staggering ₹16 crore had to be administered to save the girl’s life. While Punarvika’s parents raised ₹10 crore in the form of donations, the balance ₹6 crore was contributed by Mr. Lokesh.
