The process of appointing a regular Director-General of Police/Head of the Police Force (DGP/HoPF) for Tamil Nadu may be delayed further as the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is likely to defer the Empanelment Committee Meeting (ECM) again. The meeting called on April 23, 2026, is set to be postponed after the State wrote back saying that the date coincided with the polling for the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and the Chief Secretary and Home Secretary would not be able to attend. The UPSC was yet to communicate its decision on conducting the meeting, official sources told The Hindu on Sunday.
