With temperatures rising across the State, the Food Safety wing has initiated a special drive to ensure food safety, focussing on juice shops and bottled drinking water sales. The initiative comes amid a surge in demand for packaged drinking water and fruit juices during the summer months. Vendors must ensure the safety of the water and the ice used in their products, the Health department has said.

Officials have raised serious concerns about the quality of ice used by juice shops and wayside vendors. Many cases of food poisoning reported during summer have been traced to ice made from contaminated water
