The University of Calicut (CU) has launched a project to put in place academic facilities and training centres for students with the help of corporate entities, private persons and institutions. In the first phase, a placement and training centre is being set up with the help of Federal Bank. T. Anoop, bank senior vice-president, handed over ₹18 lakh for the purpose to the Governor and Chancellor of State universities, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, at an event held at Lok Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday (April 18). Mr. Arlekar later said that the universities should be able to help students get jobs by offering them training, and also converting them as job providers.
