It is detrimental to the interests of south India and smaller States,’’ said Priyanka Jarkiholi, Congress MP, in New Delhi on Friday (April 17). Participating in the Parliament debate over the Bills related to women’s reservation and delimitation of Lok Sabha seats, she said that the current format of delimitation will punish States that had followed mindful policies and managed to stabilise their population, while awarding those which did not. “South India has educated its women and initiated them into the workforce. It also educated the men about the need for smaller families. Such noble initiatives should not be punished,’’ she noted.
