Sasikala on Friday slammed both the DMK and AIADMK for promising freebies “recklessly” even as Tamil Nadu was reeling under huge debts and cash crunch. While her criticism of the DMK government over “administrative failure” was direct, Ms. Sasikala referred to the AIADMK as the “previous regime”, while charging both parties with saddling every unborn child with a loan of ₹2 lakh due to the freebie culture. She questioned the rationale behind the DMK promising ₹8,000 for purchase of home appliances under the Illatharasi scheme, and the AIADMK’s guarantee to provide a refrigerator and ₹10,000 per ration card holder, at a time when 6 lakh retirement vacancies in government departments could not be filled due to fund constraints.
