With rising temperatures being reported across the district, authorities have stepped up preparations to ensure the safety of thousands expected to attend the iconic Thrissur Pooram on April 26. A review meeting chaired by District Collector Shikha Surendran brought together officials from multiple departments to finalise precautionary measures against heat-related risks. The Collector stressed the need for heightened vigilance to prevent conditions such as sunstroke and dehydration among the public. Special focus was also placed on the well-being of elephants participating in the festival. The District Animal Husbandry Officer recommended providing ample quantities of fruits like watermelon and cucumber to the elephants, along with regularly sprinkling water on the ground to keep them cool.
