Located between big towns like Tirupattur and Vaniyambadi in Tirupattur district, Jolarpet became an Assembly constituency after bifurcating those towns as part of the delimitation exercise carried out in 2008.

A predominantly labour-intensive society, Jolarpet Assembly seat could be identified with a large number of small-scale industrial units, especially of manufacturing incense sticks, beedis, and bricks. “Jolarpet is dominated by working class people with many residents being agricultural labourers and construction workers. Most of them are employed in low-skilled jobs,” said a native of Jolarpet, M. Siva Sakthivel, secretary, Tamil Nadu Agarbatti and Allied Products Manufacturers Association.
