Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said in the Rajya Sabha recently that the Kittur fort was not under the jurisdiction of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Instead, it is a State protected-monument under the Government of Karnataka. However, conservation of Centrally protected-monuments elsewhere in Belagavi continues under national guidelines, the Minister said. He was responding to a question from Iranna Kadadi, MP.
