‘Illegal and arbitrary’ SIR faces statewide protests in Karnataka

Describing it as “illegal and arbitrary”, a human rights group under the banner ‘My Vote, My Right’ held a statewide protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with protestors alleging that large-scale deletions of voter names have undermined democratic participation and political equality.

Protests were held in Tumakuru, Udupi, Belagavi, Bengaluru and Raichur, among other districts of the State. In Bengaluru, around 30 citizens gathered in front of the Vidhana Soudha, raising slogans and taking a pledge to defend political equality. Protests were also held in several other areas in the city.
