Apart from a 20-minute lunch break, Sreedhar K., 47, remains at his spot outside Vidhana Soudha, where he has been photographing visitors for years. Footfall drops during the peak afternoon heat, but stepping away, he risks losing even the few visitors who continue to come, he says.

A few metres away, opposite the legislature complex, Gayathri Ramesh, who runs a fruit cart, says the summer has made it difficult to manage her health, leaving her with little opportunity to take breaks while working.
