Shivakumar, on Wednesday (April 15, 2026), stressed the need for unity, stating that the DMK, the Congress, and the INDIA bloc must remain united to ensure good governance and peace in the country. He alleged that the BJP was attempting to create divisions in south India, particularly on linguistic and religious lines, and called upon voters to reject such efforts. Seeking votes for Congress candidate Gopinath Palaniyappan in the Erode (East) Assembly constituency, Mr. Shivakumar referred to the role of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in building the alliance and said the coalition represented a strong platform for inclusive governance.
