Mr. Gehlot said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government had failed to hold the polls despite the High Court’s direction. The Opposition Congress has launched a State-wide campaign targeting the government over the delay and alleged that the postponement of elections amounted to an attack on democracy. Several Congress leaders have stated that the BJP fears its defeat because of its “misgovernance” during the last two-and-a-half years.
