Two persons were allegedly assaulted on Tuesday morning by a group of people on suspicion of cow smuggling in west Delhi’s Janakpuri, police said.

Victims, Amaan and Mohammad Irfan, were shifted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for medical examination.

After delivering the meat, Mr. Amaan and Mr. Irfan were on their way home when two persons, identified as Vishal and Gopal, allegedly stopped them, suspecting them of cow smuggling, the police said, adding that a quarrel ensued, following which more people gathered at the spot and assaulted the two men, besides damaging their vehicle.

During the inquiry, the two supply buffalo meat from the Ghazipur slaughterhouse to three meat shops – two in Khyala and one in Bindapur. They also produced an MCD slaughterhouse receipt dated January 6 for one buffalo issued in the name of Nabeel, Mr. Amaan’s brother, the police said.

Police are also examining the role of Tarun Solanki, Niranjan Pathak, Lokesh and Aashu, who allegedly took the victims to Ranhola. Further legal action is under way, the police said.
