Two sharpshooters of a gang wanted in the murder of a dairy businessman in south Delhi’s Fatehpur Beri area were apprehended following a shootout on Tuesday, an officer said. Police said the two suspects had been on the run since last year, after killing 55-year-old Ratan Lal, who lived in Aya Nagar. “After receiving a crucial tip from a source, we intercepted the duo, but they opened fire at the police party, prompting retaliatory firing in self-defence,” the officer said. Both accused sustained gunshot injuries in the exchange, and a police officer narrowly escaped injury after a bullet struck his bulletproof jacket, he said. The suspects shot Lal 69 times near his home on November 30, as he left early in the morning for his shop. Police later found the attack was planned, as the suspects had conducted a recce.
