The programme was hosted by the Telangana Women Safety Wing in partnership with MOWO Social Initiatives, with the support of the Hyderabad Police. Police officials said the focus was on creating employment opportunities for women in driving based mobility services, including two-wheeler taxis and electric autos. Charu Sinha, IPS, Additional Director General of Police, Women Safety Wing, said driving related jobs could provide economic independence for women while also increasing their visibility and sense of safety in public spaces. She said the initiative aligns with Telangana government’s emphasis on preventive safety measures and women’s empowerment. Officials said the job mela brought together training, licensing, access to vehicles and employment opportunities through a single window system, reducing barriers for women aspiring to enter the mobility sector. The nine-month pilot project aims to enable around 700 women to take up roles as drivers and is expected to serve as a scalable model for women led urban transport in other cities. The event also saw participation from mobility platforms, electric vehicle lessors and financial institutions, highlighting collaboration between the public and private sectors to create inclusive employment opportunities for women.
