The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has arrested filling up of a lake in Tellapur, by pulling down the obstructions raised against the water flow, on Friday. Mella Cheruvu, spread across 108 acres, was filled up with debris in half of its extent, which affected the water levels, a note from HYDRAA informed. Residents from the area complained at Prajavani programme of HYDRAA that the water inlets into the lake were blocked at several places. Member of Parliament from Medak M. Raghunandan Rao too has given a written complaint to HYDRAA on the same issue. In view of this, HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath issued directions for an enquiry. A field level inspection revealed that truckloads of soil and boulders were brought and dumped in the lake. Height of the inlets was found to have been raised so as to block the inflows, the note said.
