Dignitaries attending the Open Day and Science Exhibition organised at JSS Polytechnic for the Differently Abled in Mysuru on January 30. | Photo Credit: M.A. Sriram JSS Polytechnic for the Differently Abled (JSSPDA) organised an ‘Open Day’ on its campus on January 30, with the objective of creating awareness about educational opportunities available for students with disabilities for the 2026–27 academic year, apart from showcasing the skills of students. The institution also hosted a State-level Science Exhibition on the occasion. Inaugurating the Open Day and Science Exhibition, B. Suresh, Pro-Chancellor, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS AHER), and director, Technical Education, JSS Science and Technology University (JSS STU), announced that a Computer Science and Engineering course will be introduced for students with disabilities from the 2026–27 academic year. He said JSS Mahavidyapeetha runs over 350 educational institutions across the country, and specially recalled the contributions of JSSPDA, a free residential school in Suttur, and the JSS Hospital, which offers year-round medical consultations for a nominal registration fee of ₹50. R. Anand, executive officer, Karnataka State Science and Technology Department, expressed happiness over the skills developed by students with disabilities. Senior journalist Amshi Prasanna Kumar also spoke on the occasion. JSSPDA principal Ilangovan said that apart from polytechnic education, students were also provided with employability skills to help them secure jobs and become self-reliant. The Open Day provided visitors with detailed information on diploma courses offered by the institution. Parents, students, and members of the public visited the campus and interacted with faculty members. As part of the Science Exhibition, about 40 models were displayed, including 27 models from the school section and 13 models by polytechnic students.
