Srikanth and Superintendent of Police G. Stalin on Friday. The initiative is part of a series of crime prevention measures implemented across the district on the directions of the Collector and the SP. Day-and-night patrolling and vehicle checking has been intensified in all police station limits, particularly at key junctions, crime-prone locations, inter-district roads, and at all border check-posts. CCTV cameras are being installed across the district in addition to awareness campaigns being launched on their role in preventing thefts. The police have held consultations with financiers, pawnshop owners, and jewellery storekeepers to review and strengthen security measures. Officials said the coordinated effort had yielded results with theft cases in the district dropping by 42% — from 168 cases registered in 2024 to 98 cases in 2025. Recognising the importance of CCTV in crime prevention and detection, the district administration sanctioned ₹15 lakh for the installation of 50 new solar-powered CCTV cameras, following a recommendation by the SP. Accordingly, 25 key locations were identified in the Kuthalam police station limits where the cameras have now been installed and made operational. Deputy Superintendent of Police Balaji, Kuthalam Town Panchayat Chairperson Sangeetha Mariappan and Vice-Chairperson Samsudeen were present.
