Apolitical organization Samyukta Kisan Morcha will launch a signature campaign and a foot march from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, starting February 7 and concluding on March 19, to bring pressure to bear on the Union government to implement a minimum support price guarantee law fixing minimum support price for farm produce, national coordinator of the morcha Kurubur Shantakumar has said.

Addressing a press conference in Yadgir on Friday, Mr. Shantakumar said that the foot march will start in Kanyakumari on February 7. It will cross Chamarajnagar, Mysuru, Mandya, Bengaluru and Chikkaballapur (in Karnataka) before leaving for Andhra Pradesh.

After reaching Kashmir, the foot march will end at Ram Leela Maidan at New Delhi on March 19, when a farmers rally will be organised.

“Nearly 17 crore farmers across the country are facing difficulties due to lack of such a law. Therefore, the morcha is organizing the signature campaign and the foot march from Kanyakumari to Kashmir to create awareness among farmers about the need for such a law. It will submit a memorandum to the Union government at New Delhi on March 19,” he said.

He appealed to farmers to participate in the signature camp in large numbers and extend support to the foot march.

Shivasharanappa, Yellappa, Kotresh, Basavareddy Patil and others were present.
