A high-level delegation led by V.K. Saraswat, Member, NITI Aayog, at the BHEL’s Tiruchi plant on Friday

A high-level delegation led by V.K. Saraswat, Member, NITI Aayog, visited Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) plant here on Friday as part of an in-depth review of the public sector undertaking (PSU) and its strategic road map for the future.

B.P. Rao, former Chairman and Managing Director, BHEL, and Prashanth Guru Srinivas, co-founder, Catalytic Think Tank Forum, were part of the delegation.

K. Sadashiv Murthy, Chairman and Managing Director, BHEL, serving as Member-Secretary to the Committee accompanied by S.M. Ramanathan, Director (Engineering, Research & Development), BHEL, were present.

The committee members held a detailed discussion with S. Prabhakar, Executive Director, BHEL Tiruchi complex, and senior officials. The visit focused on assessing the unit’s operational excellence, technological depth, and preparedness for emerging national and global requirements.

The delegates toured key manufacturing facilities, including boiler production, Advanced Technology Products (ATP), and the Defence and Aerospace Business Group.

Comprehensive presentations were made on the evolution and expansion of the Tiruchi unit, its diversified product portfolio, progress in Coal Gasification and Advanced Ultra Supercritical (AUSC) technology, and the unit’s advanced engineering and manufacturing capabilities. Detailed interactions were held with the unit heads on future growth pathways.

Later, Dr Saraswat inaugurated a state-of-the-art three-spindle deep hole drilling machine at the ATP Machine Shop. The newly commissioned machine is specifically designed to drill extremely deep holes with stringent tolerances, enabling the precision fabrication of tube sheets for Nuclear Steam Generators—an area where accuracy, reliability, and quality are critical.
