State Energy Efficiency Development Corporation (AP SEEDCO) and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) signed an MoU at the India Energy Week (IEW) 2026 in Goa on January 28 for integrating energy-efficient appliances with the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Andhra Pradesh. APSHCL MD P. Arun Babu and EESL CEO Akhilesh Kumar Dixit exchanged copies of the agreement, as part of which the State government would provide energy-efficient appliances to five lakh PMAY households in the first phase. Each beneficiary would be given four LED bulbs, two LED batten lights and two BLDC ceiling fans. According to an official release, global energy experts at the IEW highlighted the programme as a major milestone in India’s sustainable housing ecosystem. They noted that the energy-efficient appliances help lower electricity bills, improve indoor comfort, provide greater household energy security and long-term reduction in Statewide power demand. Ajay Jain, Special Chief Secretary (Housing), said Andhra Pradesh was positioning itself as a frontrunner in embedding sustainability into mass housing infrastructure and that energy efficiency must reach every PMAY beneficiary. The above scheme is a blueprint for responsible governance, economic relief for families, and environmental leadership, he said.
