The police named the accused as 17-year-old Sandeep and 39-year-old Shankar. Both are natives of Bhadravati in Shivamogga district. Superintendent of Police Prutwik Shankar formed the team of Inspector Sunil Mulimani, Sub-Inspector Manjanagouda and others, including women staff, to crack a theft case that was registered in Yadgir Town Police Station on January 16. This followed a complaint lodged by Sharanappa Honnappa Balichakra saying that unknown men stole cash and jewellery that were in a bag kept in a car parked on Railway Station Road in Yadgir. “Immediately after the incident, police officers rushed to the spot with sniffer dogs and fingerprint experts and thoroughly inspected the scene of the offence,” Mr. Shankar told The Hindu. The police officers team collected footage from closed-circuit television cameras erected at nearby locations and also gathered other information pertaining to the crime. On a clue, the team arrested the accused when they were lurking in preparation for another hit, sources said. A sum of ₹8,20,000 in cash and 29 grams of jewellery worth ₹4,35,000 and two motorcycles that were used for the theft have been recovered from the arrested men, he said.
